Head off fires in shipyards by implementing NFPA 312!

This Standard applies to vessels during the course of construction, conversion, repairs, or while laid up. Topics covered include inspection, use of open-flame or spark-emitting devices, storage of explosive and flammable materials, electrical installations, paint application, fire protection equipment, general care and cleanliness, and more.

The title of the 2006 edition of NFPA 312: Standard for Fire Protection of Vessels During Construction, Conversion, Repair, and Lay-Up adds the word "Conversion" to reflect the fact that conversion from one type or service to another is one of the common processes that a vessel may undergo during its operational life.

Additional changes to the 2006 edition include:

  • Updated requirements for fire watches and maintenance and inspection of fixed extinguishing systems reflect recent changes to OSHA 1915 Subpart P
  • Revisions to provisions for construction, conversion, and repair
  • Amendments to the chapter on lay-up
  • Format revisions and editorial changes facilitate ease of use and enhance comprehension.
